Sandy Hook

Gun control. Yes, it is an important part of this. But in the tragedy at Sandy Hook that wasn't the problem. Adam Lanza had killed his mother before taking her guns. This wasn't an issue with the purchase of guns. This is an issue with his mother not paying attention to her child. He had previous problems in school and was taken out. He had trouble socializing but that wouldn't have caused him to shoot the students of Sandy Hook. His mother homeschooled him until he received his GED. Now, if spent that much time with your son, you would notice if something was off, wouldn't you? But that didn't stop his mother from taken him and his brother to a shooting range. I believe that this has nothing to do with gun control, better background check and psychological tests would help prevent this, but this was his mother was at fault. His son was around guns, had some issues (This has nothing  to do with asberger's syndrome) and was around some circumstances that could cause tension. (i.e. his parent's divorce) But, his mother didn't think that all this put together wouldn't set someone off? And perhaps he and his mother had a fight before that would cause him to have the kind of feeling that would make him kill her and the students of Sandy Hook. This isn't an issue with gun control, but how well she knew her son and the things he had access to.

I commend you for trying to get to the real problem, the real illness. The gun issues that are arising out of the recent shootings won't improve the identification and treatment of our mentally ill. Our country needs to improve its mental health system. Restrictions on guns and ammunition will not accomplish this.
Good work!
